welcome
Outstanding live theatre has a way of inspiring and delighting
the spirit like no other form of entertainment.
I have been entranced (if not obsessed) by the art of performance from a young age. Subsequently, it is
the greatest pleasure and honour for me to have programmed this season of FUEL 2012.
Every one of these amazing works delivers an extraordinary and rare theatrical experience. By nature
these experiences are unique and fleeting. I look forward to capturing them with you during the three
weeks of the Festival.
Sarah Nathan, Fuel Festival Director
It’s exciting that Hamilton is once again hosting the Fuel Festival of New Zealand Theatre.
The Arts are a significant part of Hamilton’s identity and events like this have an important role in
promoting and supporting that identity. The Fuel Festival of New Zealand Theatre is an opportunity to
bring together the very best theatre from throughout the country so the whole community can experience
it for themselves. At the same time it creates an opportunity to nurture and develop the amazing creative
talent in Hamilton’s own theatre scene.
I hope you enjoy this year’s exciting festival line-up.
Julie Hardaker, Mayor of Hamilton
I am delighted, with my fellow Trustees, to introduce and celebrate the 2012 Fuel Festival.
FUEL 2012 has, phoenix-like, risen from the ashes of a diffcult 2010 Festival and reformed with new
Trustees and a new Director. I am grateful for the support and hard work that has enabled this to happen.
FUEL has always delivered quality productions and I hope you’ll agree that this line up proves that you
don’t have to leave Hamilton to see excellent theatre.
I look forward to enjoying many of the productions in this diverse and sparkling programme, designed to
brighten up the Waikato winter.
Sara Young, Fuel Festival Chairperson
