Key undertakings for 2012 – 2013
» A review of the Waikato River Authority’s Funding
Strategy will be undertaken during the year ahead.
The aim is to provide greater clarity and a more
focused approach for funding applicants and to
maximise the value from the distributed funds.
» The Authority’s second funding round will take
place this year. It is intended to move forward
the funding procedure to earlier in the year
so that applicants can be notified prior to the
Christmas holiday break if they have been
successful.
» Following the passing of the Nga Wai o Maniapoto
legislation by Parliament in April 2012 to include
the Upper Waipaa River, the Waikato River
Authority looks forward to having a full catchment
approach to its restoration and protection
initiatives.
» The Authority intends to further establish a tool
to ensure auditing and effective monitoring of
funded projects can be carried out successfully.
» Further development of the Waikato River
Authority website www.waikatoriver.org.nz will
be undertaken to include GIS integration. This
additional functionality will be a key mechanism
for funding applicants and all other interested
parties to understand a complete picture of
Authority funded work being undertaken around
the river.
» The Authority looks forward to the vision and
strategy being embedded in the statutory
planning framework for the Waikato region.
