. Over time the Trust fund
has grown in value to more than $285million
as at 31 March 2013. In 2007 the Trust also
became a signatory to the Principles for
Responsible Investment, an initiative of the
United Nations and the investment community.
The Trust aims to grow the fund so that it is
worth just as much for our grandchildren and
their grandchildren as it is for us today.
Now one of the largest philanthropic trusts
in the Waikato, the Trust has donated over
$136million as at 30 May 2013 to thousands
of community groups over the past 25 years.
Trust Waikato continues to support those
projects and groups which contribute to the
well-being of communities and make our
region the wonderful place it is.
The Trust has donated to many significant
capital projects throughout the Waikato region,
such as the University of Waikato’s Gallagher
Academy of Performing Arts (Hamilton),
Waikato Stadium (Hamilton), Avantidrome
(Cambridge), South Waikato Sport and Events
Centre (Tokoroa), Trust Waikato Te Awamutu
Events Centre (Te Awamutu),
Gallagher Family Hospice (Hamilton), Te
Kohao Health (Hamilton) and the Don
Rowlands Centre (Karapiro).
Trust Waikato has always recognised the
value in partnering with key organisations
where there is a focus on shared values,
principles and goals. Some of those
organisations have included Sport Waikato,
Community Waikato, Volunteering Waikato,
formerly Arts Waikato and more recently
Creative Waikato, all of whom strive to ensure
the community groups in our region are
strong, connected and able to achieve the
community good they are passionate about.
The Trust has also worked alongside iwi in
their aspirations, especially through strategic
partnerships with Maniapoto Māori Trust
Board, Hauraki Māori Trust Board and Te
Hauora o Ngāti Hauā Trust, and through many
marae throughout the region.
Since 2000, the Trust has entered into
a number of longer term and one-off
sponsorships. The Trust sees these
sponsorships as a way to increase its profile
in the community, particular among target
groups and in rurally isolated areas. Longer
term sponsorships have included the nine
surf lifesaving clubs in our region, the Trust
Waikato Symphony Orchestra, Trust Waikato
Community Pool in Taumarunui and the Trust
Waikato Netball Team.
