Sally Strang
Crown appointee.
Sally is Environmental
Manager for Hancock
Forest Management
(NZ) Ltd, New Zealand’s
largest plantation forest
management company.
She has a degree in Civil
Engineering and has
worked in environmental
engineering and resource
management roles for 19
years, the last 15 of which
has been in the forestry
and wood processing
sector.
Sally is a forestry
representative on the
Upper Waikato Catchment
Subcommittee and a
member of the Forest
Owners Association
Environment Committee.
She is currently a member
of the reference group
working with Ministry
for the Environment
developing a National
Environmental Standard
for Plantation Forestry.
Sally lives in the South
Waikato where she and
her husband Richard own a
300ha maize cropping and
dry stock farm bordering
the Waikato River near
Arapuni.
John Kaati
Iwi appointee.
Born at Kinohaku John has
affiliations with Maniapoto,
Urunumia and others.
John is currently a farmer/
contractor at Kawhia South.
Prior to that he was Mining
Facilities Manager at BHP/
New Zealand Steel’s iron
sands mining facility south
of Kawhia.
John is a trustee of the
Kotahitanga Marae in
Otorohanga. He was a
Waitomo District Councillor
from 1986 to 2004 and a
member of the Steering
Committee to establish
the Maniapoto Maori Trust
Board from 1986 – 1990.
He is currently a Trustee
of Te Motu Island (Kawhia
Harbour), Chairperson of
Hauturu Waipuna Farm
Trust and Chairperson of Te
Riu Rua Land Blocks.

Stephanie O’Sullivan
Iwi appointee.
Stephanie is the Raukawa
representative on the
Waikato River Authority
and was also the Raukawa
representative on the
Guardians Establishment
Committee. Stephanie has
whangai affiliation to Ngati
Ahuru, Raukawa. She was
a co-negotiator for the
Raukawa Waikato River Co-
Management negotiations
from 2007-2010, continues
to be involved in Treaty
Settlement negotiations
for Raukawa and has led
the Raukawa Charitable
Trust Environment Group
for the past eight years.
Stephanie is a resource and
environmental planning
graduate of Massey
University and a Kellogg
Rural Leadership Scholar
of Lincoln University.
Stephanie was the
inaugural AgResearch
Board Observer/Director in
2012/13.
Stephanie is the current
chairperson of the Upper
Waikato Catchment Liaison
Sub-Committee, a member
of the Waikato Regional
Council’s Catchment
Services Committee, and
is involved in a range of
forums and activities in the
upper Waikato catchment.

Heemi is of Ngati
Tuwharetoa descent and
can whakapapa to Ngati
Tahu, Ngati Pikiao, Ngati
Raukawa, Ngai Tuhoe and
other hapu and iwi of the
Central North Island.
His career has seen him
involved in a number
of industries including
forestry, tunnelling,
security, education, banking
and farming.
He has a NZ Certificate
in Forestry, Bachelor of
Business Studies degree
majoring in finance and has
completed professional
governance training in both
Australia and New Zealand.
He is a current member
of the Tuwharetoa Maori
Trust Board and Co-Deputy
Chair of the Tuwharetoa
Hapu Forum Collective and
is involved in a number
of other governance roles
within Ngati Tuwharetoa.
Alan Livingston
Crown appointee.
Alan has had a long
connection with the Waipa
District. He completed
four terms as Mayor of
Waipa and two terms as a
Councillor. He is a Crown
appointee to the Waikato
River Authority and was
a Crown appointee to the
Guardians Establishment
Committee. For the past
30 years Alan has been
a sheep and beef farmer
at Te Pahu. He is a life
member of the QEII Trust
and a covenanter of two
bush blocks plus smaller
bush areas which have
been fenced and retired.
He is a former Trustee
of the Maungatautari
Ecological Island Trust with
which he has continuing
involvement. Alan has also
been a member of the
Future Proof Committee
and a Trustee of Sport
Waikato.
