able to build its communications and
profile during the past year. As well
as launching its regular newsletter
Maunga ki Tai, the Authority received
an encouraging level of news media
coverage including stories of Authority
funded projects that featured on
the internet, in newspapers and on
television.
As the Waikato River Clean-up Trust,
the body responsible for the allocation
of funding for projects, was formed
at the same time as the Waikato River
Authority, this Annual Report therefore
includes the affairs of both the Clean-up
Trust and the Authority.
We would like to acknowledge the
support and commitment from the five
Waikato River iwi for the work of the
Waikato River Authority. In addition we
recognise the support and significant
relationships we have with local
government, particularly the Waikato
Regional Council with whom we have
a special partnership agreement. Our
working relationships also extends to
community groups, business, central
government, its ministries and agencies.
Teenaa koutou, teenaa koutou, teenaa
koutou katoa.
The major undertaking
to be fundedwas a five year-
long project led by NIWA to
restore whitebait habitat
in the lower Waikato River
which was allocated up to
$1.5million.
