The Te Kauhanganui Debating Chamber
underwent a makeover in 2014.
Prompted by leaky building issues, corrective work
included the replacement of the roof and external
walls. At the same time the chamber was also
installed with a new air-conditioning unit and new
floor coverings, and received a re-paint. During
the refurbishment, carvings were removed for
maintenance work and a paint refresh. The building
was re-dedicated and opened for use again in
November last year.
The rebuild was completed as part of the first
stage of a wider redevelopment of the Hopuhopu
complex. Other tasks included an investigation into
existing site infrastructure issues and feasibility into
future anticipated building projects.
